When there is heavy rain, does Disney World close most of their rides?

I booked a vacation this week and a hurricane is supposed to be blowing in on Monday. The air-fair is expensive to refund, so am wondering if it would be worth it to stay through the weather, but this depends on the weather policies with rides staying open. Can’t find much on Disney World website.

Good question. It got me thinking about the rides at DW. Most of the rides are inside buildings and there are tons of shows and things to do when it rains.

They close them on a ride by ride basis…those that are not going to work in the rain they close, but there are plenty that are covered up that they wouldn’t have to shut down at all. Unless it’s a really big hurricane! Good luck. I wouldn’t refund, I would go for it and make the best of things.

Go - they rarely close anything - there is always something to do - use dogpile search engine and put in disney hurricanes 2004 and see what was closed or shut down - I believe they shut one day

they don’t close all the rides, but they do close the shows.

Was just their Yest, and it poured. Every Outside Ride was closed, mostly due to The lightning
I though it sucked but oh well, i live in FL, 2 hours away from Dis, and school is probably gonna be closed 2morrow (1st Day)
Good Luck

If the rain comes with thunder and lightening then yes they do close the rides just to be safe. During the summer they seem to have an electrical storm every afternoon but they don’t last long and then everything goes back to normal.

They close rides that are in not covered or are all metal. Most rides are covered or indoors so you only a few will be closed, I would go. I was there during Alberto in 2006 and the only thing that closed was Ariels Grotto because it was all metal, everything else was open

The park is closed during the storm, but it usually reopens at the earliest convenience. WDW has what is called “hurricane ride-out crews” who prepare for the storm by bringing in everything that can be blown around, and then they hunker down until the bulk of the storm has passed. After the storm is over, they set the park back up and prepare to re-open in a matter of an hour or two.

nope. disney world NEVER closes, except at night of course, but its open every day of the year, rain or shine. and when it comes a thunder storm, they have these medal poles at the top of all the rides that keeps the lighting away from the riders.

there mostly inside so only the outside would be closed
